Huge 14 Point Oneida County Buck Bagged on Opening Day in Wisconsin!

Joe Lemerond of Green Bay, Wisconsin bagged this huge 14 point Oneida County Buck on the opening day of Wisconsin's archery season. Joe and his wife Amy had planned a weekend away at their cabin to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Joe was able to get out to his stand on Saturday evening and bagged this typical 14 point buck.

Joe was in his stand for less than a half hour Saturday evening when this brute came out. "The deer started to walk away from me, but turned back and came past my stand", Joe said. "He was about 35 yards out when I let my arrow fly. It all happened so fast that I hardly remember the sequence of events". The deer ran off and Joe heard a crash, then a few kicks. He knew the buck was down. The big buck dropped about 40 yards away and there was a big blood trail that was easy to follow.

Joe knew it was a big deer, but had no idea it was a 14 pointer. The deer is a perfect 10 pointer with 4 kicker brow tines. The G2s are 9 inches and the brow tines are 6 inches. The buck was still in velvet and in perfect condition. The deer unofficially scored about 154 and 1/4. Pope and Young does not have a category to measure antlers in velvet.

Joe immediately tagged the deer and then went to get some help to get the buck out of the woods. Joe returned with his wife Amy, took these pictures, gutted the deer and carefully dragged it out. Joe was able to keep the deer head in good condition, after registering the deer he caped it out. Joe then brought the deer to a taxidermist to skin the skull and remove the antlers.

There are four things that are special about this buck kill:

1. This 14 pointer was Joe's largest buck kill ever.
2. This buck was killed with a bow and arrow.
3. The buck was killed on public land.
4. Bait was not used to kill this buck!

This is a buck of a lifetime, Joe said. I'm still in shock. When asked "What are you going to do for the rest of the archery season?". Joe replied, I'm just getting started.

Joe also mentioned that he owe's his wife an anniversary dinner since his plans for that evening sort of changed.
