Day 1 (August 11, 2004)
Campsite: Devil's Dream
The guidebook indicated that circling the mountain in clockwise fashion was
the way most folks did it and that is what was recommended. We totally
agree. The scenery today was not stunning and maybe even a little boring
with no distant views.
Nonetheless, today was the first day, we were all excited and ready to hike so
we didn't really care.
Weather for the entire trip was excellent. We picked
this time of the year to minimize the chance of rain. However, we did not
expect to get NO rain. Daytime temp's were in the 60's and 70's with
night-time falling into the 30's and 40's. Just about perfect, in my
opinion.
Biting flies were a minor irritant at this site.
Insects were not an issue anywhere else on the trail.
